Oh... Oh... I never thought ABC would make me have SUCH a fit.. Nightline will from on *always* be a show I will try to catch whenever it is on..
They happened to just finish showing a segment on DNA testing of heritage (race). Nothing too jaw dropping about.. But they had it centered around a man who had his whole life identified himself as Black/African-American/What-Have-You.. His skin tone alone would convince one that he would be.. He raised his children to embrace a 'Black'-oriented culture/mindset and to always be proud of their heritage. His wife yes is Caucasian, but she as well raised the children the same way. Well.. The trick of the matter is.. He took a DNA test. And there was not *one* drop of African ancestry in his genes. I wish I could remember exactly what his results were.. But it raised many thoughts in my mind.. Yes I believe all Humans originated in Africa.. We don't need to go into that whole Fertile Crescent lesson and how human expansion 'diluted/changed' genes and everything.. But.. Now the question is raised.. This man identified himself as one heritage/culture his whole life.. And then comes to find out that he *isn't* of that heritage.. What does he do?
Well (to me) the answer is obvious..
He continues being himself.. And he gets to learn about the other cultures that he now embraces..
*ponder* I would like to take that test.. Granted through family history and what was handed down I know the majority of my heritage and it is a very rich one.. But I would like to take the test just to *see*..
Argh.. That's it.. Back to cleaning up and stuff for me! *slinks off*
