"For most black Americans who know our history, we do not want any further confusion about what a marriage and a family happen to be," said Fauntroy, a spokesman for the Alliance for Marriage, which helped craft the amendment President Bush has backed. "We have not yet recovered from the cruelties of slavery, which were based on the destruction of the family."
So... Let me get this straight..
The man who sired me. Is a bastard. I won't go into too many specifics (for now) about him and the things he has done to my mother, and to me. He isn't worthy of me calling him either 'Father' or even 'Daddy' (when I was a babe at the stage of saying 'mommy' and 'daddy' I was saying 'mommy' and 'colbert'. even then, I didn't fully recognize him as my daddy, and finally ~ mom said I 'compromised' ~ I called him 'colbert daddy britt'. go figure.) Ultimately, his actions caused my mother to get rid of him, just like virgil's actions caused me to get rid of him as well.
Am I to believe... that.. because of the 'cruelties of slavery', from a time that we, as a nation/society, should have 'matured' enough by now to all get up and get over about (though that's not going to happen anytime soon).. I should just look at my sire in pity and go: "Oh, Daddy sweetie... It's okay. None of this was your fault at all.. The only reason you stole from my mother (long story), ended up in jail (long story), believed that what money you made was yours and what money your wife made was yours, had other women calling the house (phone number had to be changed no less than 3 times), and treated your daughter the way you did (among other things) was because of the 'cruelties of slavery'. Mommy should have never divorced you.. We both should have been more understanding and allowed you to ruin her credit, continue to forge her name on the stocks she had so you could sell them to have more money to gamble with, and furthermore ruin any type of ability for me to have any sort of healthy relationships with men." And I probably should have gone to virgil and been like: "Oh, you poor, misunderstood, wonderful man.. I'm O so very sorry for what I have done to you.. Of course you're allowed to cheat on your girlfriend with me.. I don't see why I shouldn't have to spend all my money on you and you not do a damned thing for me.. And, don't worry sugarpie, I'll make sure you pass every class you have with me.. Oh..? You are in trouble(s) with the law? It's okay dear.. I got your back always.. I know that when you lie to me, you're actually playing one of my favorite guessing games and seeing if I'll always keep blindly trusting you and keep my faith in you.. You so silly.. *girlish giggle*. Oh darling, none of that mess with the Marines even matters.. They just don't understand you like I do.. That everything about you and that which you do is because of the 'cruelties of slavery'."
Bull
Fucking
Shit
One moment while I go wash out and sterilize my mouth and mind.. Just the thought of talking sweetly to those men... eww.. Bad taste!! *shudder*
The 'cruelties of slavery' had not a damn thing to do with how that man treated his wife, his daughter, his marriage, and how virgil treated Shanita and me. ANY man, of ANY race, is just as able to and guilty of doing the exact same things as they had done. They destroyed their marriage/relationships, NOT slavery..
True, back during slavery, slave owners understood the power in destroying any semblance of a slave's family. He had the ability and power to do so.. Back then.. I didn't see any 'Massa Johnson' looming over my sire's shoulder as he did the things to me and my mother that he did.. And I sure as hell didn't notice any overseer cracking a whip against virgil's back. Both men had complete control over themselves and their actions.. So does every other Black man and woman in this country. We should never forget our heritage (well, what heritage we do have) and the journey our ancestors in this country had to travel to get us to where we are now. No, we should never ever ever forget the 'cruelties of slavery'. But we need to use that as something to grow stronger and move away from, not continually use it as a crutch. You know why? Because, if we do, then we'll never rise above any higher from where we are now. We'll always have this 'excuse' to fall back on, like a security blanket for a baby. That's right. I said baby. You want to keep acting like babies, we're going to continue to be treated like babies. No wonder all these Neo~nazi, racist, KKK type people continue to throw the word 'boy' at us, like we'll always be beneath them. We need to grow the hell up already and become the Men and Women our enslaved ancestors could only dream we would be, and show them what the 'cruelties of slavery' has really taught us..
I am to the point where if I catch one more person blaming everything negative about themself on everything BUT him/herself, I'm going to promptly beat the living daylights (and everything else I can beat out of them), and tell them THAT'S because of the 'cruelties of slavery'..
Ugh.. I keep getting this feeling I need to gag or something.. Maybe if I stop looking over what I wrote about how I should have really been towards those two...
I need to just end this rant now before I become more pissed than I already am.. *grumblemuttersnarl* I got things to do today..
